Coach House

The Cotswolds, Gloucestershire · Barn conversion

The Coach House is the complete renovation of a four-bedroom barn into an elegant country home. ADM designed and installed the electrical, lighting and media installation throughout, including the garden.

Project overview

Barn conversions rarely allow for straightforward cable routes. Working around exposed stone, timber trusses and existing structure, the installation was planned so that lighting and power appear where they are needed without disturbing the character of the building.

The brief

Provide a bespoke lighting, power and media design suited to an open, characterful interior, and extend controlled lighting into the landscaped garden.

ADM's scope of work

  • Bespoke lighting, power and media design for the whole property
  • Plaster-in downlights installed flush to the ceiling
  • Spotlights and wall lighting to highlight stone and timber
  • 5-amp lighting circuits for lamps on switched control
  • Antique brass Corston front plates throughout
  • Rako lighting control for the garden
  • Spike lights, wall lights and step lighting externally
  • Commissioning of internal and external lighting scenes

Key systems and products

  • Rako garden lighting control
  • Plaster-in downlights
  • 5-amp lamp circuits
  • Antique brass Corston front plates
  • External spike, wall and step lighting

Technical highlights

  • Lighting positioned to graze stone walls and pick out roof timbers

Outcome

The finished home keeps the character of the original barn while operating like a modern house: lighting is grouped into scenes, lamps are controlled with the room, and the garden is sensitively illuminated.

From our initial design conversations through to installation and commissioning, the ADM team were knowledgeable, reliable and easy to work with. They understood exactly what we wanted and delivered a beautifully considered result.
